Quebec gov’t to invest CA$27.7m on tower builds
The Quebec government has announced a significant investment of CA$27.7 million ($19.5 million USD) to build 17 new cell towers across ten regions of the province. According to Radio Canada, Minister France-Élaine Duranceau confirmed these construction plans, with the towers expected to be operational by 2028.
"Each site represents a tower that is being built," Duranceau stated on the Radio Canada radio show Vivement le retour. "The sites were chosen to maximize the number of citizens who would be served within the available budget."
What This Means for Families and Homebuyers
For health-conscious parents and homebuyers monitoring EMF exposure, this expansion represents a substantial increase in wireless infrastructure. The 17 new towers will be added to 211 towers already announced by the Coalition Avenir Québec in 2022 and 2024, creating a total of 228 new cell sites across the province.
The affected regions include Estrie, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Centre-du-Québec, Chaudière-Appalaches, Côte-Nord, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Lanaudière, Laurentides, Outaouais, and Mauricie. If you're considering purchasing property or currently live in these areas, it's worth researching whether your neighborhood is among the selected sites.
Steps to Protect Your Family
While cell towers are designed to meet safety guidelines, many families prefer to minimize proximity to wireless infrastructure when possible. If you're concerned about EMF exposure in your home, consider exploring options like EMF shielding paint, which can reduce radio frequency penetration through walls.

For homebuyers in Quebec's affected regions, asking local authorities about planned tower locations and maintaining distance from high-intensity wireless infrastructure may be prudent considerations during your property search.
